It's back: Dinner Lecture Series returns with Basque Region event
UW-Green Bay revived its popular Dinner Lecture Series Oct. 13 with an event featuring the Basque Region of Spain.
Associate Prof. Cristina Ortiz, coordinator of UW-Green Bay’s Spanish Program and a native of the Basque Country, introduced more than 100 campus and community attendees to the region through a dinner presentation focusing on language, culture and politics. Campus and community guests dined on authentic Basque cuisine including salad, pork stew, chicken and potatoes.
Drawing on her own experience and a combination of information and humor, Ortiz engaged the Dinner Lecture Series crowd on topics ranging from geography and history to culture and cuisine. Her presentation was interesting, personable and lively, attendees said.
The Dinner Lecture Series event marked the return of a popular campus and community fixture for which UW-Green Bay was well known in the 1980s and ‘90s. UW-Green Bay’s Division of Outreach and Adult Access was eager to bring the series back to offer a fun and educational evening out, said Mona Christensen, UW-Green Bay director of camps and conferences.
“We are energized by the great turnout we had for the return of the Dinner Lecture Series at UW-Green Bay,” Christensen said. “Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited for the next program in the series.”
The next Dinner Lecture Series event will be held March 29 and feature Business Administration Prof. Meir Russ, who will speak on “Israel: The High-Tech Wonder in the Desert.” Registration for that program will open in January.
