All the world’s a stage: When theatre, social sciences collaborate
The semester’s opening class session in instructor Karen Dalke’s first-year seminar in Urban and Regional Studies made a big impression.
The seminar is titled “Animals and Society,” and Dalke had the small but dramatic idea of introducing the seminar’s topics through, well, drama. She pursued an interdisciplinary collaboration with the UW-Green Bay theatre program. What resulted was an entertaining, improvisational sketch examining the role of humans in relation to other species through what we eat.
Dalke credits students Derek Knabenbauer , Ross Christian, and Alyssa Falvey, acting under the direction of theatre Prof. Laura Riddle, for their fine work in the performance at the Weidner Center’s Jean Weidner Theatre.
