Snow in May?
Don’t panic Wisconsin winter warriors, this snowperson is the creation of 16 Design Arts and Art majors, who worked collaboratively on a final project for Introduction to 3-Dimensional Design class. Blizzard Evelyn was the inspiration for the final subject matter. The technical requirements: be constructed completely out of the plastic sheeting and duct tape provided, stand a minimum of 10-feet tall when inflated, and hold the inflation well for 10 minutes. The students aced it!
“This assignment was originally crafted by adjunct professor and UW-Green Bay alumna Mindy Wittock ‘04 (Art) and current woodshop technician, Mark Sauter,” said Prof. Alison Gates. “No one has done it for several years here, but thinking ahead to when we have engineering on campus, introducing the students to some light engineering problem-solving, as well as valuable ‘soft skills’ like team work, collaboration and collective problem-solving, seemed like a good idea pedagogically to me. Everyone contributed an idea and the final object is a result of compromise, reflection and material testing.
