EMBI helps UW-Green Bay celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day

In conjunction with Earth Week and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the Green Innovations 2010 event, sponsored by UW-Green Bay’s Environmental Management and Business Institute (EMBI), was a success on many levels. About 200 students and community members attended the Dave Wann presentation, April 22. Wann, a best-selling author, talked (and sang) about personal responsibility for protecting the world’s resources. Earlier that evening students and staff from the Sustainable Local Organic (SLO) Food Alliance planted the campus garden.

On April 23, EMBI held its second annual symposium where nearly 100 campus and community members gathered to discuss key sustainability issues including breakout sessions on sustainability in transportation, wind energy, regional health, regional sustainability and water management. At the end of the two-day event, Paul Tower received the University’s first Alumni Earth Caretaker Award. Tower is President and CEO of Applied Filter Technology (AFT), in Snohomish, Wash., a firm that helps to make biogas energy from green wastes such as lumber byproducts and landscaping trimmings.
