Governor’s commendation for Laatsch

Prof. William Laatsch, retiring as interim provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs, received notice of yet another honor at the biweekly meeting of the chancellor’s cabinet on Tuesday, July 14.

Chancellor Thomas Harden presented Laatsch with a plaque bearing a certificate of commendation signed by Gov. Jim Doyle. The citation noted Laatsch’s 43 years of dedicated service to the University.

“Your commitment to public service has greatly contributed to the well being and quality of life of the citizens of Wisconsin. You have brought proficiency as well as expertise to your profession and will serve as an excellent role model for others to follow. I extend my personal thanks to you for the contributions you have made to the State of Wisconsin. My best to you for an enjoyable, rewarding retirement… James Doyle, Governor.”

After Harden read the citation aloud, Laatsch responded, “I’d love to do it all over again. It has been great… The support from everyone has been marvelous… And I love our students. They’re the reason we’re here…”
