For musicians, Saturday a big day, too
UW-Green Bay student musicians drew appreciative applause Saturday at the Weidner Center during mid-year commencement before an audience of nearly 2,000.
The UW-Green Bay Commencement Band, under the direction of Associate Prof. of Music Kevin Collins, played a prelude concert along with the processional and recessional music. Chancellor Tom Harden paused near the end of the ceremony to invite the audience to join him in applauding an especially strong performance.
Also earning robust applause was vocal soloist Greg Muller of De Pere. A graduating senior in Music, he stepped to the microphone at his own commencement to open the formal program with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Most impressive was his rendition of the UW-Green Bay “Alma Mater” to close the ceremony. His rich, booming baritone earned a solid ovation.
