UW-Green Bay offers Arts Enrichment for Adults summer program
Arts Enrichment for Adults, a noncredit program offered at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, is designed for adults with interests in learning new art genres. A wide array of classes will be offered from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings, July 16 – Aug. 13, on the UW-Green Bay campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Students can choose one class from the following course options:
Jewelry: Create And Embellish Your Own — Want to add pizazz and colorful handmade components to your existing jewelry while learning new techniques? This course will focus primarily on enameling, along with some simple surface embellishments to add to metal pieces. Techniques covered in this workshop include patination, roll printing, etching, and various enameling techniques. Each class will include a demonstration. There will also be plenty of time for students to create their own jewelry statements. All skill levels, from beginner to advanced student, are welcome. Instructor: Kristi Edminster
Exploration With Acrylics — Past and present techniques collide as students explore the realms of realism, abstraction — and everywhere in between. Whether you enjoy a classical approach or one unique to yourself, all avenues of expressions will be encouraged and utilized with acrylics. A fun and friendly environment awaits, where the typical can become the extraordinary with the flick of a brush. Instructor: Jason Keller
Landscape Digital Photography — Are you the next Ansel Adams? In this workshop you will examine photographs of the masters like Adams to discover what makes a good landscape photograph. Instructor and professional photographer Dan Moore will then apply those concepts in the field, using the natural landscape around the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Cofrin Arboretum as your subject matter. Once you have taken your photographs, you will move to the computer lab, where you will learn how to use Photoshop to enhance your images. NOTE: This is NOT a class on digital camera technology. Participants should come to class understanding the basic operation of their digital camera. Instructor: Dan Moore
Ceramics: Wheel Throwing And Hand-Building For Raku Firing — Some say ceramics is their road to creativity. Others say it is their path to relaxation. Whatever your reason for joining Dean Hoegger on this enjoyable and exciting learning adventure, he will guide you on this learning experience. Under the guidance of this professional potter and instructor, you will learn to touch the clay and shape it in a variety of forms. You will learn and use a variety of techniques in wheel throwing and hand-building to create decorative vessels. Instructor: Dean Hoegger
Anyone Can Draw — Does the very thought of drawing intimidate you? Your fears will vanish after studying this fine art during this enjoyable and informative class. Anyone can draw — and this course sets out to prove it. During this popular class you will loosen up through a series of exercises including contour drawing. You will also learn the grid method, a way of transferring your images onto the paper’s surface using a variety of shading techniques and materials — pencil, charcoal, pastel, etc. — to produce a three-dimensional look. You will be instructed in discovering, developing and learning to trust your own personal drawing style, a liberating gift that will serve you well in your artful future.
Book-Making: A One Of A Kind Experience! — In this popular workshop, you will create your own hand-covered book while learning and incorporating techniques used hundreds of years ago. You will learn about and create four different styles of books, paint your own cover designs, experience the joy of success and carry with you the knowledge and skill that will enable you to make your own books at home. Instructor: Kathy Hackbarth
Watercolor Inspirations — Jennifer Boudreau’s watercolor workshop is designed for beginners as well as advanced students. You will learn about your painting tools and how to use them and the affects you can achieve. Techniques you will learn include color mixing and paint control, and how to enlarge your sketches and mask out white desired areas. Creating dominance with the use of hue value and color intensity are the keys to rendering a lovely and successful painting. Workshop atmosphere is relaxed, fun and friendly. You will love being a part of it. Instructor: Jennifer Boudreau
