Summer camp update: cool art this week, hot guitars the next

Here’s a youth camp update from Mona Christensen, director of the Outreach and Extension summer program:

•  Last week’s opening session of Summer Art Studio drew 64 area students. Participants explored two media per day and closed with a public show in UW-Green Bay’s Lawton Gallery on Friday.

•  This week, 104 students from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Missouri are attending the senior high art camp sessions. Students focus on one form of art for the whole week. If you wander by the Studio Arts Building you’ll see offerings including Multi-Media Figure Drawing, Fashion Design, Ceramics, Photography, Acrylic Painting, Metals and Jewelry, Self-Portrait Painting and Video Game. The public art show is this Friday (June 25) from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Lawton Gallery.

• Next week, or at least June 27 through July 1, 40 students will be jamming in the SA Building for Guitar Camp. “With drummers added to the camp this year, each concert group will have real-life experiences working as a rock band,” we’re told. A faculty concert is Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the University Theatre.  The student’s final concert is Thursday, July 1 at 6 pm., same location.
