UW-Green Bay to present Student Honors Recital Saturday, Feb. 16

UW-Green Bay Music will showcase some of its top musicians during a Student Honors Recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert will feature a variety of vocalists and instrumentalists performing a range of pieces from composers both well known and less familiar. It is free and open to the public.

Following a welcome from Scott Furlong, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the eight students featured will perform as follows:

Sam Stranz, Weston – saxophone, student of Associate Prof. John Salerno: “Stardust,” by Hoagy Carmichael (1899-1981).

Lindsay S. Cummings, Freedom – soprano, student of Associate Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston: “Verborgenheit,” by Hugo Wolf (1860-1903); and “Glitter and be gay,” from Candide, by Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990).

Ryan Braatz, Weston – baritone, student of Assistant Prof. Courtney Sherman: “Die Neugierige,” by Franz Schubert (1797-1828); and “Che fiero costume,” by Giovanni Legrenzi (1626-1690).

Kyle M. Sweeney, Shawano – piano, student of Assistant Prof. David Severtson: “Prelude and Fugue No.2 in C Minor,” by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).

Kevin A. Wellens, De Pere – baritone-bass, student of Associate Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston: “Arm, arm, ye brave!” by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759); and “Zueignung,” by Richard Strauss (1864-1949).

Nicole Duhaime, Schofield – soprano, student of Associate Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston: “Lachen und weinen,” by Franz Schubert (1797-1828); and “O mio babbino caro,” from Gianni Schicchi, by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924).

Kevin St. John, Cambridge – tenor, student of Associate Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston: “The Trumpet Shall Sound,” from Messiah, by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759); and “A Vagabond Song,” by Michael Head (1900-1976).

Ryan Dummer, Green Bay – piano, student of Assistant Prof. David Severtson, “Etude Opus 10, No.9” and “Etude Opus 10, No.5,” by Frederic Chopin (1810-1849).

The student honors recital is the 14th concert of the 2012-13 season for UW-Green Bay, an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. More information is available at www.uwgb.edu/music.
