UW-Green Bay Nursing Program celebrates 30 years with ‘History Wall’
The UW-Green Bay Professional Program in Nursing is celebrating its 30th year of offering Registered Nurses (RNs) a baccalaureate completion program. The UW-Green Bay RN to BSN program was approved by the Board of Regents in 1980 and began offering classes in 1981-82. Nursing had RN graduate No. 1,000 from the program this academic year. The program is marking the anniversary with the development of a display detailing the historical highlights of the program and its rich heritage in nursing education, both on campus and in the virtual classroom online. The “History Wall” was developed by Fall 2011 graduate Kari Rader for her Senior Project with the coordination of Nursing staff member Ruth Pearson and assistance of staff member Lynn Rotter. The piece is permanently displayed in the Professional Program in Nursing Suite (Suite 325, Rose Hall) “If you have the opportunity to travel to campus, stop to visit and view the wall!”

Other noteworthy activities celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of UW-Green Bay’s nursing program include a retrospective video of the program’s history which concludes by asking alumni and friends to share their program memories. In addition to the History Wall and Anniversary Video, Nursing alumni and current students have been invited to participate in an April webinar entitled “Caring Theory” specially developed in recognition of the 30th anniversary by internationally recognized nursing scholar, Jean Watson. Watson is Distinguished Professor of Nursing and holds an Endowed Chair in Caring Science at the University of Colorado, Denver and its Anschutz Medical Center Campus. A founder of the original Center for Human Caring in Colorado and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, she is a widely published author and recipient of awards, honors and honorary degrees.
