Campus police had encounter with reckless-driving suspect

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department says a 64-year-old Green Bay man will face charges that he drove recklessly at speeds of up to 100 mph on Wednesday night and caused a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 41. The incident began on the far east side about 7:40 p.m., with reports of a speeding minivan blowing through stop signs. A short time later, a UW-Green Bay police officer encountered the van stopped on Walter Way at the Residence Life complex. The driver, who was honking the vehicle’s horn continuously, was reportedly confused and uncooperative when the officer approached on foot. When the driver suddenly sped away, the UW-Green Bay officer relayed the license plate, vehicle and suspect information to dispatch, and Brown County police sighted the van speeding across the Tower Drive Bridge a few minutes later. It is not believed the suspect had any campus ties. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the incident.
