David Cook rocks a sold-out Weidner Center

David Cook, American Idol’s seventh-season winner, rocked the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus Feb. 20. The “intimate concert” was a stop during his cross-country college tour.

Tickets for the popular event were sold out within days. All totaled, about 1,200 people, mostly UW-Green Bay students, watched the show from the main floor of the Weidner Center. Cook and company limited the amount of tickets that could be sold.

Kendra Meinert of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on the concert: “Not only did the reigning “American Idol” champ put on a show Friday that proved to the sold-out Weidner Center crowd of 1,000 that he and his band can really rock… but he was nice enough to meet with all the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay volunteers who worked the show. His next concert was an afternoon gig on Saturday, so he and his band bolted quickly Friday night, but he made time for the meet-and-greet after his sound check earlier in the day… Both Cook and opener Ryan Star were reportedly blown away by the venue. The tour is playing campuses, and that often means crammed dressing rooms and not the kind of comforts and acoustics a building like the Weidner can provide. With any luck, Cook might remember that when he tours again.”

Cook has made a name for himself post-Idol with hits songs Time of my Life and Light On. He released his self-titled album in November. One sign of Cook’s popularity — vendors had to restock Cook memorabilia several times throughout the evening, according to reports.
