‘Teaching History’ brings K-12 educators, visiting scholars to campus Wednesday

There’s a big event on campus this Wednesday (March 2) with a one-day workshop at the University Union. Prof. David Voelker of Humanistic Studies is organizing the event for 60 middle and high school teachers who are enrolled in the Wisconsin Academy for the Study of American History.

The Academy is a three-year professional development program for teachers funded through a Teaching American History Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Voelker is this year’s lead historian for the project, which is a partnership with CESA 6, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Marathon County.

Guest presenters for Wednesday’s workshop are Syracuse University historian Carol Faulkner (her topic is women’s rights and the 1848 Seneca Falls convention); Jasmine Alinder of the public history program at UW-Milwaukee (the civil rights movement and 1960s Milwaukee); and UW-Green Bay Prof. Emeritus Craig Lockard (the U.S. war in Vietnam and nationalist and revolutionary undercurrents).
