Concert of NFL music raised $2,500 for Music Alumni Scholarship

The final tally is in from November’s “Football Fever” concert of NFL Films music at the Meyer Theatre in downtown Green Bay. The result? A gift of roughly $2,500 to the UW-Green Bay Alumni Music Scholarship Fund, which basically doubles the principal of the fledgling fund. While the Nov. 12 show was part of the season series of the Civic Symphony of Green Bay, that organization directed a portion of the gate receipts to UW-Green Bay. They did so because two University groups shared the program in order to more fully cover the repertoire — orchestral, jazz and wind band — of guest conductor Sam Spence, who in the late 1960s and ’70s composed most of the classic NFL Films soundtracks.

Thanks go out, then, to the student Wind Symphony under the direction of Prof. Kevin Collins, and to an alumni-and-community big band (the “Tundra Alumni Band”) organized for the occasion by Prof. John Salerno. The Spence residency was underwritten by music and football fan Chris Sampson and his family, and an additional private donor assisted with a gift to the scholarship fund.
