Photos: Newly installed UW-Green Bay Chancellor Michael Alexander joins with 500 others for UW-Green Bay Day of Service
More than 500 members of the UW-Green Bay community participated in the UW-Green Bay Day of Service, Friday, Oct. 1, 2021. All faculty, staff and students were encouraged to stop what they were doing for the day to connect with and make a difference within their communities.
Volunteering ranged from soup kitchen food prep to campus and community fall clean-up, to assembling medical kits for community overdose prevention. The Day of Service included all four UW-Green Bay campuses in Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan. An estimated 2,000 hours of community service were donated through the effort. The day was inspired to honor the installation of UW-Green Bay Chancellor Mike Alexander the previous day.
Response by the community was inspired and appreciated, including this note of thanks from Executive Director of Downtown Green Bay, Inc. Jeff Mirkes: “Our Downtown & Olde Main Street team was so impressed by the number of UW-Green Bay students and staff that helped make a BIG difference as they cleaned up our districts. It was great to see how this initiative was a team-building experience for them and how they were routinely being thanked by people out and about downtown today. Thank you!”
Kudos to the staff members of the Student Engagement Center for organizing this event.
