MARINETTE — Athletics shape players as individuals from an early age and play a large role in who these athletes grow into as adults. Participation in athletics creates long-lasting memories and greatly impacts lives. For some, it is a passion that never leaves their hearts, and these former Buccaneer men’s basketball team players proved just that as they came together for a first-ever reunion this summer.This group of former Buccaneer athletes was led by Coach Daren Sommerfeldt from 1993 through 2000. He led the teams to six back-to-back titles during his time with the now UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus. Coach Sommerfeldt and his athletes hold two strong traits in common: passion and grit. These traits they developed then in basketball and academics, are now continued in their professional lives.
