Petrashek awarded Sager Scholarship

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student Kari Petrashek has been awarded this year’s Paul and Thea Sager Scholarship for her research paper: “Northern Saw-whet Owl Fall Migration through Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve in Two Rivers, Wisconsin from 2000 – 2008.”

Petrashek is from Two Rivers and recently graduated cum laude with a degree in Environmental Science and Biology. The $500 scholarship will be available for the spring semester when she will be enrolled as a graduate student.

Petrashek’s research was conducted as part of a semester-long project in the course, Ecological and Environmental Methods and Analysis, under the supervision of Associate Professor Amy Wolf, and Bernie Brouchoud of the Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve in Two Rivers.

The Sagers, faculty emeriti in Human Biology (Thea) and Natural and Applied Sciences (Paul), established the endowed scholarship in memory of former UW-Green Bay Chancellor Edward Weidner. The award recognizes outstanding science research by a UW-Green Bay undergraduate, and is judged by a faculty panel from the departments of Human Biology and Natural and Applied Sciences.

The selection committee recognized Lindsey Bender (Appleton) as runner-up, and Tiffany Vickman (Green Bay) and Gary Wauters (Green Bay) for honorable mention.
