Marinette Campus Student Business Idea Contest winners announced

Environmental science student Madisen Klaver won the $500 first prize at the Spring 2019 Marinette Campus Student Business Idea Contest on Tuesday, April 2, at the Marinette Campus. Klaver’s idea — an industrial hemp-based material, could be used as an alternative for plastic bottles, and would break down completely within a few months.

Biomedical engineering student Katie Thai took second place and a $250 prize for her idea for a Vietnamese coffee shop. Anna Magrane’s idea, “Table to Farm,” is a commercial composting service. Her idea took the third place $100 prize. Magrane is planning to study Environmental Science.

The evening began with a 30-minute business idea pitch workshop for the community. Those in attendance who were not Marinette Campus students were able to pitch their ideas after the students pitched. Both the students’ ideas and the ideas pitched by community members were evaluated by a panel of three judges. Marinette community member and UW-Green Bay staff member Eric Craver (Marketing and University Communication) came away with a $100 cash prize, which he donated back to UW-Green Bay, with his idea for a concierge service.
