Provost Davis returning to the classroom
In UW-Green Bay inboxes today is a memo from Provost Greg Davis announcing that he is returning to teaching beginning in Fall 2019. His announcement:
I wish to inform the UW-Green Bay community that I have made the decision to transition from the role of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs to return to the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. Effective with the Fall Semester 2019, I will rejoin the College’s Mathematics faculty.
Serving as your Provost has been an immensely rewarding and humbling experience – an opportunity I never expected in my career. With your help and support, we have taken on massive challenges and seen great success in moving our institution forward. Thank you to everyone for making this possible! I genuinely hope that UW-Green Bay continues to make progress in achieving the University vision described by our Chancellor.
When Chancellor Miller asked me to take on, and entrusted to me, the Provost role he noted that this might be the most difficult job in all of academia. I do not know if this is true; however, I can say that it has certainly taken a toll and I find that it is now a most appropriate time for choosing a change in my career pathway. With the immeasurable support of my wife Jennifer and my family, I truly look forward to reprising the role that brought me to UW-Green Bay originally; i.e. that of being a professor and interacting with our students on a daily basis.
Finally, I want to thank Chancellor Miller for his trust and mentorship over the last five years and his appreciation for my desire to spend more time in the classroom.
