UW-Green Bay to present Chamber Ensembles concert Dec. 3
The UW-Green Bay Chamber Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Chamber Ensembles include the UW-Green Bay Clarinet Ensemble, directed by Associate Prof. Eric Hansen; the Chamber Singers, directed by Assistant Prof. Courtney Sherman; and the Contemporary Percussion Ensemble and UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble, both directed by Prof. Cheryl Grosso.
The UW-Green Bay Clarinet Ensemble will open the program with “Kyrie in G” from Mass In G by Johann Sebastian Bach, which will be followed by “Terzetto” by Marcel Poot. The group also will perform “The Liberty Bell” by John Philip Sousa and “George M. Cohan Medley,” arranged by Paul Nagel. Clarinet Ensemble personnel are as follows: Rebekah Erdman, Kaitlynn Francois, Lauren Paul and Heather Roberts.
The Contemporary Percussion Ensemble will be the next to perform, beginning with “Over the Edge” by Steve Fitch and “Falcones Luminous” by Christopher Rouse. The group will then perform Grosso’s original composition “Septet Stew,” with movements titled “Wood Roasted,” “Thai Peanut Sauce,” and “Peking Jing Duck.” Contemporary Percussion Ensemble personnel are as follows: Jason Bakeberg, Adam LeGrave, Jamie Rodgers, Jack Van Beek, Lisa Ford, Bobby Magers, Kyle Sweeney.
After a brief intermission, the Chamber Singers will open with U2’s “MLK,” followed by “Pathogen Whispers,” by student Nicholas Schommer (with words by student Conrad Kamschulte). The group also will perform Paul Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and the well-known carol “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” before concluding with Christopher Tin’s “Baba Yetu” from Civilization IV. Chamber Singers personnel are as follows: Evan Ash, Morgen Clarey, Angela Danowski, Tianna Ellis, Cody Finer, Michaela Kaiser, Sabrena Koren, Andrea Kuhlow, Nicholas Schommer, Brooke Theama, Adam Zwicker.
The Chamber Ensembles concert will conclude with the UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble, performing three of Grosso’s original compositions — “Rhythm Chant 26,” “Rhythm Chant DM” and “Rhythm Chant Col-ba-Nu.” UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble personnel are as follows: Alysha Brooks, Owin Cantible, Roxanne Elsner, Lisa Ford, Isaiah Hernandez, Michaela Hogan, Bobby Jo Magers, Rachel Massey, Candice Matuszak, Jamie Rodgers, Tori Schuurmans, Jack VanBeek.
