UW-Green Bay, local aviation partners to present course for private and sport pilots

UW-Green Bay Education Outreach will partner with CAVU Flight Center and Executive Air to present Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sport Pilots, a weekly evening course that runs Wednesday, March 20 through Wednesday, May 8.

Designed to help participants understand the aerodynamic principles and physics of powered flight and explore aviation as a hobby or career, the Aviation and Aerodynamics course will prepare attendees for successful completion of the FAA Private Pilot or Sport Pilot written exam. Upon completion of the eight-week course, participants will receive an endorsement to take the FAA Private Pilot or Sport Pilot Knowledge Test.

Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sport Pilots is taught by Sherwood (Woody) Williams, who spent three decades as a teacher, principal and district administrator in Wisconsin schools. He is now a learning consultant to organizations including CESA 7, the Experimental Aircraft Association, LightSPEED Technologies and the Sherwood Educational Design group. Williams, a flight instructor and the owner of CAVU Flight Center in Green Bay, continues to share his enthusiasm for learning in university, school and community groups in the areas of literacy program development, supervision, conflict resolution and developing consensus.

The Aviation and Aerodynamics course runs from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, March 20 through May 8, at the CAVU Flight Center in the Executive Air Building at Austin Straubel International Airport in Ashwaubenon. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. The cost for the course is $300 for private or sport pilot students, which includes course materials but not the fee for taking the FAA knowledge test.
