Meredith to host award-winning baritone for Black American master class
UW-Green Bay Vocal Prof. Sarah Meredith is organizing a black-American-themed master class for voice students with award-winning baritone Nicholas Davis. The class will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 in the Studio Arts Choral Room (101) during the usual Opera Workshop time and space. It is free and open to the public and all voice students in the UWGB music program.
Davis will perform 5 Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughn Williams and a spiritual, and the workshop will include performances by seven students singing spirituals and art songs also by black American composers. UWGB singers include: Acacia Angelo, soprano; Ashley Gutting, mezzosoprano; Logan Gruszynski, tenor; Misael Moya, baritone; Lauren Paul, mezzosoprano; Heather Roberts, soprano; and Nick Schommer, baritone.
Davis, a black American vocalist, was one of the finalists in the Czeck and Slovac International Voice Competition hosted at UW-Green Bay last year and winner of the Dvorak Voice Competition which Meredith judged last year in Czechoslovakia.
This master class is funded by a grant from UWGB Student Life and a private donation from Mary Meyer and Gordy Haugan, with whom Davis stayed when he was here for the Czech-Slovak competition last year.
Davis will also be singing with the UW-Green Bay Choir at the Chorale & Concert Choir on Wednesday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weidner Center Cofrin Family Hall.
