In the news: Gerds column covers Sutton’s play, NYC festival shows

We told you here recently that Associate Prof. Brian Sutton is bringing his original musical, “Searching for Romeo,” to the New York Music Theatre Festival for three staged readings later this month. On Tuesday (July 9), WFRV critic-at-large Warren Gerds posted a full-length column about the play, and Sutton’s journey, on the station’s homepage. LOG readers may recall that Gerds last summer offered ample praise for “Romeo” in a Green Bay Press-Gazette review, calling it “smart, funny, bawdy, clever, original, irreverent, tuneful, hokey, teasing and amazing.” This time around, he references Sutton’s “maverick musical” (a term we rather enjoy), and talks about Sutton’s multitasking success in bringing “Romeo” to life.
