Jeffreys talks new Pope, Easter celebration with Press-Gazette

Associate Prof. Derek Jeffreys spoke with the Green Bay Press-Gazette last week about the significance of the Easter holiday — especially with a newly named Pope leading the planet’s 1.2 billion Catholics. In a story that ran Sunday (March 31), Jeffreys said Pope Francis’ humility has generated a lot of excitement among Catholics. On Thursday, the pontiff washed and kissed the feet of prisoners at a youth detention center in Rome. “It shows his concern for those that are impoverished and inmates, and that’s just a very powerful symbol,” said Jeffreys, Humanistic Studies and Religion.
