On Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, Green Bay women’s volleyball defeated Oakland in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament, setting up a match with second seed Milwaukee in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 23. Unfortunately, the women’s volleyball team lost 3-1, ending an incredibly successful 2019 season with a record of 21-9.
Women’s basketball defeated Chicago State on the road 102-46, a 56-point margin of victory. This was the fifth largest margin of victory in program history. The team now begins a three-game holiday tournament in Victoria, British Columbia, starting with a Thanksgiving Day matchup with Bowling Green.
Green Bay Athletics posted a 3-1 record over the weekend, beginning on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 with a 3-0 victory for the women’s volleyball team over Youngstown State. The team also played on Sunday, Nov. 10 against IUPUI, posting another 3-0 shutout victory. Sitting at 19-7 on the season, the Phoenix plays their final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee before beginning conference tournament play on Friday, Nov. 22. The men’s basketball team played UW-Stout on Saturday, Nov. 9, winning by an impressive margin of 51 points in its home opener. At 1-1 on the year, the team heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico to play New Mexico on Wednesday, Nov. 13 as part of the 2019 Legends Classic.
The women’s volleyball team split its weekend slate, defeating Northern Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, 3-1 before falling to Wright State 3-1 on Saturday. The Phoenix is now 17-7 overall on the season and hosts Youngstown State on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Kress Center, where they are 9-1. This game is also available to watch on ESPN+.
The women’s soccer team lost its final game of the season to IUPUI on Friday, Nov. 1, 3-2. The team finished the 2019-2020 campaign 7-10-1. Men’s soccer defeated Wright State on Saturday, Nov. 2, 1-0. The team sits at 5-7-2 on the season, with final regular season game coming on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m. at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Horizon League Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2. Freshman Payton Heinberg finished as the men’s team top individual runner, placing 38th overall, followed by fellow freshmen Riley Volkman and Tanner Conard finishing as the team’s second and third individual runners, placing 71st and 77th, respectively. Sophomore Alexia Oyer finished as the women’s team top individual runner, placing 56th overall, with Senior Meta Ehlen and Junior Grecia Guzman finishing as the team’s second and third individual runners, placing 65th and 72nd, respectively. The runners will finish out their season on Friday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison.
It will be a quiet weekend at the Kress Center with most teams on the road. The men’s and women’s cross country Horizon League Championships also takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Highland Heights, Kentucky. On Friday, women’s soccer closes out the regular season, playing on the road against IUPUI. The women’s volleyball team plays at Northern Kentucky. The women’s soccer team produced two shutout performances on the road last weekend, a 4-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday and a 8-0 victory over Alcorn State on Sunday, to close non-conference play with a 6-3 record. The team plays at home Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against Cleveland State to begin conference play.
The women’s volleyball team split its weekend slate of games, defeating Buffalo 3-0 on Friday before falling to North Dakota State 3-0 on Saturday. With a 7-2 record, the Phoenix heads to Milwaukee on Friday, Sept. 20 to play the #7 nationally ranked Marquette Golden Eagles at 7 p.m.
The men’s soccer team played at the University of Illinois-Chicago Saturday night, losing 2-0. With a 1-2-2 record, the team heads to Fort Wayne, Indiana on Tuesday to play Purdue Fort Wayne before returning home to play Oakland on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
