UW-Green Bay Music, local artists and high schools to present Handel’s ‘Messiah’
UW-Green Bay Music, in conjunction with the Green Bay Choral Artists group and guest high school choirs, will present George Frederic Handel’s classic Messiah, along with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra, Op. 80, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
This performance of Handel’s renowned work draws on the collaborative efforts of the UW-Green Bay Chorale and Concert Choir, as well as a festival orchestra featuring UW-Green Bay faculty members, UW-Green Bay students and professional musicians from across Northeastern Wisconsin.
The Green Bay Choral Artists ensemble also lends its voices to this classic oratorio, along with choirs from Green Bay East and Ashwaubenon high schools.
UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. Randall Meder will conduct the concert.
The evening’s performance will begin with Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra, Op. 80, featuring UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Michael Rector, a new member of the UW-Green Bay Music faculty. Following intermission, the UW-Green Bay, professional and community groups will perform Messiah (HWV 56), concluding with the beloved “Hallelujah” chorus, always an audience favorite.
The UW-Green Bay performance will include more than 200 singers and instrumentalists, along with four featured soloists. They are UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Courtney Sherman, soprano; St. Norbert College Adjunct Instructor Linda Feldmann, mezzo soprano; Lawrence University Assistant Prof. Stephen Sieck, tenor; and UW Oshkosh Assistant Prof. Nathan Krueger, bass.
