Mentzel is new safety and risk manager

UW-Green Bay has announced the appointment of Michael (Mike) Mentzel as the institution’s new safety and risk manager.

The position has responsibilities in the areas of occupational health and safety, hazardous waste and environmental compliance, and risk management. Mentzel succeeds Jane Rank, who is retiring. He reports to Tom Maki, UW-Green Bay’s vice chancellor for business and finance.

Mentzel was previously the principal corporate safety and environmental manager for Unilever North American Ice Cream, directing safety and environmental affairs for ten manufacturing locations throughout the United States and Canada as well as for numerous other ancillary facilities. Mentzel holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in environmental sciences from Rutgers University.

Mentzel began his duties at UW-Green Bay on Nov. 3. He is charged with keeping the University in compliance with federal and state safety and environmental regulations, as well as minimizing the institution’s property and liability exposures through pro-active risk management programs.
