UW-Green Bay Music to present Jazz Ensembles concert Nov. 5
UW-Green Bay Music will present a concert featuring its Jazz Ensemble I, Jazz Ensemble II and Vocal Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will be the first of the evening to perform, doing so under the direction of UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. John Salerno. It will kick off with Salerno’s own arrangement of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” before performing songs from Dizzy Gillespie, Donald Fagen, Alison Krause (all with arrangements by Salerno) and Harry Barris.
The Jazz II Ensemble will be the next to take the stage, with UW-Green Bay Music student Sam Stranz directing. The group will perform two pieces by Duke Ellington, as well as selections from Glenn Miller and Michael Parish; Webster and Kaper; and Jeremy Wall. Stranz is a senior who is directing the ensemble during the sabbatical of Associate Prof. Adam Gaines.
After Jazz II, the Jazz I Ensemble will perform, again under the direction of Salerno. The group’s selections will include Stranz’s arrangement of “I Can’t Help Falling In Love,” as well as pieces from Pat Metheny, Bob Mintzer, Leonard Bernstein and others.
