UW-Green Bay choir concert features Sturgeon Bay High School singers

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Concert Choir and Chorale welcomes the Sturgeon Bay High School Concert Choir for a joint performance Friday, Nov. 7, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $6 for adults or $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-328-TKTS (8587) or ordering online at www.uwgb.edu/tickets. The event will be held in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the UW-Green Bay campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

The Sturgeon Bay High School Concert Choir will perform a set of pieces, and will join the UW-Green Bay choirs for a selection at the end of the concert.  Sturgeon Bay High School Vocal Music Teacher David Robertson is a UW-Green Bay alumnus with a degree in Music Education.

The Nov. 7 event will feature the UW-Green Bay Concert Choir performing sacred and secular works including “Sing We and Chant It,” by 16th century English madrigalist Thomas Morley, and Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus.”

The UW-Green Bay Chorale will perform several pieces, including “Cry Out and Shout,” by Knut Nystedt; “Cantique de Jean Racine,” by Gabriel Fauré; and Robert Schumann’s “Zigeunerleben,” which depicts scenes in the life of roaming Gypsy people.

The Chorale will also premiere an original composition by UW-Green Bay student Timothy P. Kiefer.

Kiefer, a senior from Germantown majoring in applied music, composed both the text and music for “Do Not Fear, My Child” after the death of a close friend. The text expresses comfort to both the departed friend, and to those who are saddened by her loss.

The UW-Green Bay Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney; and “Morning,” by Paul and Lisa Stiller.

Prof. Randall Meder conducts the UW-Green Bay Concert Choir and Chorale with Mary Slavek and Prof. David Severtson accompanying, respectively. Prof. Christine Salerno directs the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
