Veterans honored at Nov. 11 appreciation ceremony

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will honor its veterans who have served or are currently serving their country in the armed forces at a special ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The University’s fourth annual Veterans’ Appreciation Reception will take place at 4 p.m. in the Phoenix Room B of the University Union at UW-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

The event is open to the public. Members of the public planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Elaina Koltz, UW-Green Bay veteran representative, by phone at (920) 465-2065 or e-mail at koltze@uwgb.edu.

There are currently 275 veterans taking classes at UW-Green Bay this semester and many current students have orders to be activated the beginning of 2009. UW-Green Bay Interim Chancellor David J. Ward will present certificates of appreciation to those veterans who have been called to active duty since Sept. 11, 2001.

The UW-Green Bay community wants to show the veterans its appreciation for the service they have given to their country, he said.

“Through this ceremony, we want to say ‘Thanks’ to our veterans for their admirable service to our country,” Ward said. “We are proud to have them as members of the UW-Green Bay community.”

The ceremony will include remarks by Lt. Col. Thomas M. Howlett, U.S. Marine Corps.

Chancellor Ward will also speak and present the appreciation certificates.

A U.S. Army color guard will present the colors.

The Vets 4 Vets student club will be collecting items for care packages they will be mailing to overseas troops at the beginning of December.
