Move-in day welcomes most freshmen ever to UW-Green Bay housing
GREEN BAY — More freshmen than ever will call the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus their home-away-from-home starting Thursday.UW-Green Bay welcomes a record number of freshmen to student housing on move-in day, set for this Thursday, Aug. 28, with 810 signed up for on-campus addresses.
“Research shows that students who live on campus during their freshmen year are more likely to succeed at college than their peers living elsewhere,” said UW-Green Bay Director of Residence Life Glenn Gray. “It has been a top priority of ours to provide housing to all freshmen who request to live on campus. This year, we’ll help our freshmen succeed in record numbers with more than 800 staying in our residence halls and on-campus apartments.”
Prior to this year, the record number of freshmen housed on campus was 763 in the 2006-07 school year.
The total freshman class enrolled for the 2008-09 school year is currently 1,024, with 631 women and 393 men.
UW-Green Bay officials expect total undergraduate enrollment of about 6,200 students. Final official enrollment numbers will be calculated the week of Sept. 8.
The incoming freshman class brings with it a cumulative grade point average of 3.27 with 23 students having had a perfect 4.0 GPA in high school.
Fifty-six freshmen are Division I athletes that will be competing for the Phoenix teams and three are military veterans.
