Communication major Kepler named UW-Green Bay Student Employee of the Year

A UW-Green Bay student Financial Aid specialist was named the University’s Student Employee of the Year Monday (April 15) during a special recognition event on campus.

Senior Communication major Mysty Kepler assists with maintaining accurate financial aid and student employment records in UW-Green Bay’s Financial Aid Office. Nominator Karen Sevick, University Service Specialist, lauds Kepler for her great decision-making skills, confident performance and effective communication ability.

“Mysty has the ability to take on new projects and develop new methods to perform certain tasks within her role,” Sevick said. “She has found ways to make complicated data easier to process and understand. In addition, Mysty always shows complete professionalism in her work and personality.”

Kepler was presented with a $50 gift card and a UW-Green Bay Student Employee of the Year engraved plaque during an on-campus ceremony April 15. Her name also was engraved on a plaque that will hang in the Financial Aid and Student Employment Office, and her photo will be displayed for the next year inside the Student Services area.

Kepler was one of 14 students nominated for the 2013 Student Employee of the Year Award, and two runners-up also were recognized during the April 15 ceremony. Graduate student Jacob Eggert, Environmental Science and Policy, was honored for his work as the lead intern for the Aurora BayCare hospital project, partnering with UW-Green Bay’s Environmental Management and Business Institute. Junior Nursing major Stephanie Kessler was recognized for her work as student assistant in the acquisitions/government documents department at the Cofrin Library.

The April 15 recognition ceremony helped kick off Student Employee Appreciation Week, which runs through Friday, April 19 at UW-Green Bay. The week’s events include daily activities designed to show appreciation of all student employees, including free ice cream for student employees, a make-your-own root beer float station, a lollipop pull game with candy bar prizes and free popcorn Friday. Each year, the National Student Employment Association coordinates a selection process and chooses the National Student Employee of the Year to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college.
