Ganyard named new director of UW-Green Bay’s Cofrin Library

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has named Paula M. Ganyard the new David A. Cofrin Library director, Kathy Pletcher, associate provost for information services, announced Wednesday, April 15.

Ganyard started with UW-Green Bay in 1997, serving first as a library instruction and web resources librarian until 2002. She then became university webmaster and currently leads efforts to develop and maintain the UW-Green Bay website.

“Over this time, Paula has developed the expertise and qualities that will make her a successful library director,” said Pletcher, who oversees library operations, computer services and instructional support.

Before coming to UW-Green Bay, Ganyard was the interim interlibrary loan lending supervisor at the State University of New York at Buffalo and a reference/electronic access librarian at Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY. She also held management positions at Waldenbooks and Media Play.

Ganyard obtained a Master of Library Science degree in 1996, and bachelor’s degrees in History and Anthropology in 1990 from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

She currently serves on the University’s Marketing committee and is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Green Bay, a Green Bay Chamber of Commerce program that offers individuals a chance to develop leadership skills while enhancing the Green Bay area.

“University libraries are in a constant state of change and need leaders who are skilled at enabling and fostering change. Paula Ganyard brings to the Cofrin Library knowledge of library services and technology as well as the ability to learn and adapt to the changing needs of library users,” Pletcher said. “Paula has an abiding public service perspective and commitment to UW-Green Bay’s academic plan. She will be a strong advocate for the library and for the faculty, staff, students and community members who depend on the University library for their research and educational needs.”

Ganyard replaces former Cofrin Library Director Leanne Hansen, who retired in December 2008. She will start in the position on June 1.

The University will immediately begin its search for a new webmaster.

With a staff of more than a dozen regular employees and about 40 student employees, the Cofrin Library supports the UW-Green Bay mission of teaching, research, and service and serves as an intellectual and cultural resource for the campus and for the Northeastern Wisconsin community.

The Cofrin Library has more than 285,000 books, is a repository of nearly a half-million government documents, and contains thousands of maps, videos, sound recordings, journals, newspapers, magazines, music scores and more. The University Archives, Special Collections and Area Research Center are housed in the library and contain historical materials related to Northeastern Wisconsin and the University.
