National, state, regional economists to discuss surviving the recession

GREEN BAY — As the economic decline continues to challenge individuals, businesses, government entities, educational institutions and organizations, perhaps the best ammunition to use when facing tough problems is to learn the facts straight from the experts.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Office of Outreach and Extension, the Brown County UW-Extension office and the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center have partnered to develop a breakfast symposium, “Our Changing Economy: Strategies for Moving Forward in an Uncertain Economic Environment.”

The event is set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay, 333 Main St.

The program will be an informative exchange on the condition of the economy regionally, statewide and nationally featuring experts from all three areas.
The keynote speakers for this event include UW-Green Bay Interim Chancellor David Ward, who is president of NorthStar Economics, Inc.; Wade Rousse, an economic outreach specialist for the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago; and John Koskinen, the chief economist and division administrator for the Division of Research and Policy for the state of Wisconsin.

“These are challenging economic times globally and in the New North region,” Ward said. “The rapid pace of economic change is unprecedented. This symposium will provide an opportunity to consider how we got here, where we’re going, and how our region fits into the global economic picture.”

Each expert will give a 30-minute presentation about making it through a severe economic downturn. A panel discussion and questions from the audience will follow the presentations.

The program fee is $89 for the public and $30 for students. Breakfast included in the registration fee.
