UW-Green Bay offering Spanish Immersion for Professionals summer course
¿Necesita usted aprender el Español? Do you need to learn Spanish? The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is offering Spanish Immersion for Professionals, an intensive language-learning experience for all levels of Spanish-language learners.
The program will be held Monday through Friday, Aug. 8-12, at UW-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Registration is due by Monday, July 25.
The Spanish Immersion for Professionals program is designed with customer service representatives, call center employees, hospitality workers, social workers, bankers, teachers and health care workers in mind. Along with instruction in language and grammar, courses tailored to health care, education, business, law and leisure/travel will be offered. A substantial online resource component will be part of this program. Students will learn in UW-Green Bay’s high tech classrooms and will enjoy meals in the University’s Student Union facilities.
Students will participate in language classes by skill level. Some English will be spoken in beginner classes. Intermediate and advanced class instruction will be entirely in Spanish. An online pre-test will determine a student’s skill level.
Each class day will end with a session on culture and current affairs in the Spanish-speaking world. In late afternoon and evening, participants can choose to join conversation tables hosted by native Spanish speakers, and browse in a Spanish-language reading area stocked with books and magazines. Optional evening activities will be available.
Fees for the program are $395 for noncredit instruction; $625 for two undergraduate credits in Spanish; or $975 for two graduate credits in education. The fees for all three include beverage breaks and lunch each day.
For out of town participants, several hotels are available in close proximity to the campus. (See the program’s website for more details.) Participants may also choose to live on campus in contemporary University Housing apartment suites, with up to 3 other roommates, with the idea to continue the language practice experience in the University Housing setting.
