UW-Green Bay to host Green Innovations conference on status, future of water

Green Innovations 2012, April 12-20 Water, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

The Environmental Management and Business Institute (EMBI) at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will present its Green Innovations 2012 conference Wednesday, April 18 through Friday, April 20 on the University campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Titled “Water — Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” the conference offers the chance for attendees to be where innovation, business and water resources meet. The event is a natural fit for EMBI, which works with public- and private-sector partners to solve environmental concerns in a sustainable manner.

Among the many highlights of the two-day symposium is a screening of Tapped, an award-winning documentary that takes a close look at the big business of bottled water. The primary screening will occur at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, with an optional showing at 1:30 p.m. the same day. Both screenings will take place in the Phoenix Room of the University Union, and the evening event will be preceded by a 7 p.m. groundwater panel discussion. You can watch a trailer of the movie here: www.uwgb.edu/embi/green-innovations-2012/tapped.asp.

Other conference highlights will include tours of Renard Island, the Fox River Cleanup Facility and other area locations; as well as breakout sessions on various tracks (business, regulatory, and water and economic development); and an address from Chad Pregracke, founder of the nonprofit Living Lands & Waters organization. Area high school students will showcase their work through the annual Lower Fox River Watershed Symposium, taking place the morning of Thursday, April 19.

Established in 2008, EMBI helps strengthen UW-Green Bay’s leadership position in the promotion of environmental awareness and eco-friendly initiatives. The annual Green Innovations conference, part of its primary mission, features international experts and local panelists who provide insight on topics including sustainability in transportation, wind energy and regional health and sustainability.
