Faculty tenor, pianist perform in recital March 9

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is hosting a faculty recital featuring Prof. Robert Glaubitz, tenor, and Prof. David Severtson on the piano. The recital takes place in the Fort Howard Hall in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9.

The recital is free and open to the public. The Weidner Center is on the UW-Green Bay campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

The theme of the program is songs by 20th century American composers, including Ned Rorem, Samuel Barber, Dominick Argento, William Bolcom and Ray Hinkle. The songs feature texts by English-language poets including Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare, Robert Frost and James Joyce.

“All of the selections incorporate some aspect of twentieth century music — whether they are more modern in sound or more influenced by popular music such as jazz — while still featuring the tonal and lyrical melodies of older styles of vocal music,” Glaubitz said.

Glaubitz teaches voice at UW-Green Bay as well as voice-related classes such as diction and vocal techniques. He also directs the music for the UW-Green Bay musical theater productions and acts as liaison between the music and theater programs. Prior to his appointment at UW-Green Bay, Glaubitz held positions as a graduate instructor at the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a member of the music faculty at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S. D. This is Glaubitz’s first recital at UW-Green Bay.

Severtson coordinates the piano program at UW-Green Bay, teaching studio piano lessons, keyboard musicianship, first-year ear training and Survey of Western Art Music. Severtson maintains an active performing career as a soloist and collaborative artist, including performances at faculty and guest artist recitals at Luther College, St. Olaf College and Bemidji State University. He also has appeared in concert series in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin and currently serves as accompanist for the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
