UW-Green Bay posts position description, launches Chancellor Search website
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay took another step toward finding its next leader Tuesday, Feb. 11, launching the Chancellor Search website at www.uwgb.edu/chancellor/search/.
The site includes a formal posting of the job opportunity, with a description of the position and its responsibilities, and a listing of required and preferred qualifications. Applications and nominations are now being accepted.
The Chancellor Search website — designed to be a repository of information about the University, larger community and specifics of the position — will both help recruit possible candidates and offer the chance for interested parties to follow the process and offer input. The site launch comes on the heels of six public forums, four hosted on campus and two in the community, that were held to inform the process and assess what’s important as the national search continues.
A 23-member Chancellor Search and Screen Committee is in charge of the effort, working in conjunction with Storbeck/Pimentel Executive Search Consultants. Chaired by UW-Green Bay Music Prof. Cheryl Grosso, the committee consists of 12 UW-Green Bay faculty members, two academic staff members, two classified staff members and two students, as well as two administrators and three community representatives.
The committee is tasked with identifying a successor to UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden, who announced in December he will be stepping back from his current role in August 2014. He and his wife Cathy plan to remain in the Green Bay area and stay active in the University, with Harden planning a return to teaching down the road. With his 65th birthday nearing and 11 grandchildren to watch grow up, Harden said the time is right to step aside. He announced his decision with the intent that his replacement be named in time for the start of the 2014-15 academic year.
Individuals who are interested in the chancellor position must submit application materials by March 28 for full consideration. Preliminary candidate interviews will take place in April, with on-campus interviews of the publicly announced five finalists taking place in early-to mid-May. After a series of public presentations and personal interviews, the University of Wisconsin System president and a special UW System Board of Regents committee will recommend one individual to the full Board of Regents. The board is expected to vote on the selection during its June meeting.
