UW-Green Bay celebrates Black History Month beginning this week

GREEN BAY, Wis — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will be celebrating Black History Month with a full schedule of activities including a Soul Food Luncheon, Saturday, Feb. 2. Some of the other events are highlighted, below. For more, see www.uwgb.edu/bhm.

UW-Green Bay’s 2019 Black History Month Celebration Kick-Off Event will be taking place on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the 1965 Room, located in UW-Green Bay’s University Union. Nationally known spoken word artist, writer, educator, organizer and motivational speaker Kwabena Antoine Nixon will give an interactive performance. Additionally, those in attendance will have the opportunity to hear from UW-Green Bay Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Eric Arneson, meet and network with multicultural college students, staff and faculty and local Green Bay community leaders. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. No RVSP is needed.

Black History Month activities will begin on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 with the annual UW-Green Bay Black Student Union Soul Food Luncheon, which will take place from noon to 3 p.m. in the Phoenix Rooms located in UW-Green Bay’s University Union. The event will educate and celebrate Black Womyn’s influence, leadership and contributions to history and feature Robyn Oguinye, news reporter, anchor and producer of WFRV TV Local 5 (Wearegreenbay.com) news.

On Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, the Study Abroad Fair will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Phoenix Rooms and provide an opportunity to learn more about studying at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. The 4thAnnual Diversity Discovery Free Day will be on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019 at the Building for Kids Children’s Museum in Appleton, WI from noon to 5 p.m. This free, family-oriented event is designed to increase awareness and understanding of diversity. Also offered on Sunday, Feb. 10 is the opportunity to explore Green Bay from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by taking the Legendary Tour of Lambeau and visiting the Neville Museum for a guided tour of the exhibit “Delay of Game: Experience of African American Football Players in Titletown.”

The Inclusivity & Equity: Certificate Program will be held Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the World Unity B Room located in the University Union.

Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 will be WI Pre-Law Day, in which students are invited to attend the 7thAnnual Wisconsin Statewide Pre-Law Diversity Day, hosted by the University of Wisconsin Law School and Marquette University Law School. This will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A screening of the film Milwaukee 53206 will be held in the Christie Theatre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019. A screening and discussion on the film BlacKkKlansman will take place in the Christie Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. The film will be shown starting at 4 p.m. and the discussion will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
