SBDC at UW-Green Bay presents one-day spring professional development workshops
The Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at UW-Green Bay will offer six one-day professional development workshops during spring 2015, part of its ongoing Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program. All workshops meet from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Advance Business and Manufacturing Center, 2701 Larsen Road, Green Bay.
Executive Presence for Supervisors will be held Tuesday, March 17. This workshop will focus on cultivating executive presence by teaching attendees how to look, feel and be confident; communicate in a way that conveys respect; help others grow, succeed and feel valued; and become a trusted, professional leader. Instructor: Laurie Crawford, life coach.
Courageous Communication will be held Tuesday, March 24. Participants will learn why tactful yet bold communication is so important at work — and in life. They will be encouraged to strengthen personal character and courage to make all of their communications prosper, applying what they learn to confidently handle real-life situations in an honorable fashion. Instructor: Stacy Shapiro, founder and owner of Shapiro Strategies.
Servant Leadership for Supervisors will be held Tuesday, April 7. The session will provide all types of leaders with tangible ways in which they can implement servant leadership in their own lives and the lives of those they serve. The workshop will teach a step-by-step process that will help attendees elevate their leadership to the next level for the benefit of themselves and their organizations. Instructor: Ben Fauske, president of RISE Leadership.
Managing Projects will be held Tuesday, April 21. Workshop participants will discover ways to keep project team members working together efficiently and effectively, recognizing the difference between traditional management and managing people who are temporarily assigned to a project. Attendees will learn how to deal with special challenges that may arise, and how to position their project for success. Instructor: Kay Wais, owner of Successful Projects.
Leading Through Change will be held Tuesday, May 19. This lively and interactive course will use real-life stories to teach participants to adapt to overlapping changes in their workplace and personal lives. Attendees will acquire the skills they need to understand the best communication practices that will help ease resistance to change, and will learn to identify tools to improve how they lead through change. Instructor: Tina Schuelke, founder of Change Management and Communications Center, LLC.
Managing Your Future Workforce will be held Thursday, May 28. This workshop will help attendees develop a fresh perspective on a rapidly changing work world that blends multiple generations and cultures. The course will examine the workforce of today and beyond, looking at workforce needs, utilizing commonalities in a diverse workforce, learning to manage and communicate without personal bias, and more. Instructor: Theresa Zimmermann, founding member of Future Focus Group, LLC.
Designed for managers who are looking to build leadership skills and advance their businesses, the Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program and its component courses provide practical and interactive content that attendees can immediately integrate into their workplace leadership. The flexible program is designed for individuals who are just starting out on their leadership path, as well as more seasoned leaders who wish to improve upon specific skills.
Participants who wish to earn a Supervisory Leadership Certificate will be required to attend the two Core programs, Supervisory Leadership I and Supervisory Leadership II, as well as their choice of several elective programs within three years. However, individuals may take courses whether or not they intend to pursue the certificate. A complete list of courses and a downloadable brochure are available online.
All Supervisory Leadership programs are held at the Advance Business and Manufacturing Center, 2701 Larsen Road, Green Bay. All two-day elective courses are $425 per person and all one-day courses are $200, with group discounts available. Workshops meet from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the scheduled dates. The Wisconsin Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Green Bay is part of a statewide network of SBDCs working with business owners and entrepreneurs to facilitate business growth and improvement, and to launch successful new companies.
