Phoenix men flirt with near-record comeback vs. Badgers
The greatest comeback in NCAA D-I basketball history was in 1994, when Kentucky rallied from 31 down with 13 minutes left to win at LSU. Last Wednesday, Dec. 23, Coach Linc Darner’s UW-Green Bay team trailed the Wisconsin Badgers by nearly that much (30 points), 68-38, with 12:39 left at the Kohl Center. The pressing and running Phoenix went on an unbelievable 33-6 run to cut the margin to three in the final minute, but the Badgers steadied themselves to pull out an 84-79 win. (The Phoenix set Kohl Center records for visitors with 26 turnovers forced and 18 steals made.) Next up for the Phoenix (6-5) is a trip to Kentucky to face Morehead State (6-4) on Monday, Dec. 28, at 6 p.m. CST.
