Photos: Keep rising class of 2022!
A dusting of fresh snow, joy, reflection and a plethora of clever mortarboards were in abundance at the Fall 2022 Commencement ceremony on the UW-Green Bay campus on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
For graduating class speaker Jacob Lau, who majored in public administration and political science, it was a day filled with gratitude in light of the last few tumultuous years. “When thinking about what theme to select for this speech, only one word came to mind to describe our college experience: perseverance. We persevered.”
Classmate, fellow commencement speaker and human biology major Alexandra Zakutney noted that choosing to be a learner everyday is the best gift you could ever ask for, and then posed an intriguing parting thought for her classmates as they think about lifelong learning: “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” Great question, Alex.
Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry CEO Sachin Shivaram offered congratulations on behalf of the University’s Coucil of Trustees and members of the Northeast Wisconsin business community: “We are counting on you to be smart, thoughtful, and generous leaders. We are counting on you to be better than us.”
Support and advice for those graduating was also shared by former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton and President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers Mark Murphy. Lawton reminded students to “anchor each decision you make in your personal integrity.” From Murphy: “Build bridges. Keep your perspective. Work hard.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2022. Keep rising!
