National photo-of-the year-honors for Roemer ’86

Those of you who are fans of Sports Illustrated (and our own Inside 360 magazine, for that matter) likely have seen UW-Green Bay alumnus Mike Roemer’s awesome Lambeau Leap photo featuring an ueber-animated Donald Driver amid the throngs of adoring fans. Captured in October for the Associated Press, Roemer’s pic has gotten noticed — and most recently, was named the no. 1 shot of 2012 by AOL Sporting News. Roemer told us he knew he had a nice image after capturing the leap, but didn’t know just how special it was until after the game. “By looking in the viewer on the back of my camera, I didn’t know the connection that Driver had with the fan, or his expression, and I didn’t have time to dwell on it during the game action,” Roemer told the UWGB magazine. “When I had time to sit back and go through the images, I knew it wasn’t your typical Lambeau Leap.” You can say that again.
