Masters’ Candidate in Applied Leadership returns from Afghanistan
Master’s Candidate in Applied Leadership, Second Lt. Andrea Ackerman, returned from a one-year deployment at Operating Base Fenty in Afghanistan on Friday, Dec. 6. While deployed, she finished the last requirements of her program. Her line of inquiry in the master’s program has focused on the use of community gardens in assisting veterans with PTSD. She has put her leadership skills to use by creating an on-base community garden she dubbed, “Fenty Farms,” overcoming the obstacles of no soil, few seeds and blistering hot conditions. Ackerman plans on participating in December commencement upon her return and implementing community gardens in the Green Bay area next summer.
