Stearney, students welcome ‘dinner sponsors’ for Habitat trip in January
UW-Green Bay students with Habitat for Humanity are once again headed to Slidell, La., over winter break (Jan. 12 – 20). It is expected that about 45 students will give up a week of their winter break and pay roughly $200 each for out-of-pocket expenses on the trip. Mike Stearney, dean of enrollment services and adviser to the students, will once again accompany the group. He says a number of individuals from across campus typically inquire as how best to help. One idea offered by Stearney and the students is for supporters to sponsor (or help sponsor) one of the six low-frill dinners he cooks for the group, usually costing about $100 per night for groceries. The group says they’ll acknowledge the sponsors daily on the trip blog, and the students would send or post a personalized photo acknowledgement to each sponsor.
