Spurs release Sykes


Former Phoenix basketball star Keifer Sykes was released by the San Antonio Spurs as the NBA team’s preseason came to an end. Sykes said he would sign with the Spurs’ NBA D-League affiliate in Austin (Tex.), in hopes of being called back to next year’s camp when it is expected the team will have fewer guaranteed contracts and more open roster spots. Horizon League fans will note that among the guards the Spurs kept was former Detroit Titans star Ray McCallum Jr., a three-year NBA vet.
