Campus-based TV group’s Door County documentary to air Sept. 12

Educational Television Productions of Northeast Wisconsin (ETP-NEW) is excited to announce the broadcast date of its latest documentary. “Emma Toft: One with Nature” will debut on Wisconsin Public Television at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.

The organization is proud of its work and appreciative of the opportunity to showcase this program to a statewide audience through Wisconsin Public Television, said ETP-NEW Executive Director Dean Leisgang. “This latest program continues a long tradition of collaborative projects between our two organizations,” Leisgang said.  “I think it is a tremendous compliment that Wisconsin Public Television has given our documentary a prime time broadcast spot on their network.”

The “Emma Toft: One with Nature” documentary highlights Emma Toft (1891-1982), ‘Wisconsin’s First Lady of Conservation,’ and details how she and the Toft family saved The Ridges Sanctuary and Toft Point from destruction. Thanks to the efforts of the Toft family this region of Door County remains a haven for wildflowers, animals, fauna, and a primeval forest of white pines, despite numerous threats from logging and commercial development.

“Our interviews with Door County friends and family were able to capture Emma’s life and principled struggle to retain Toft Point for future generations,” said Eileen Littig of NEWIST/CESA 7. “We also hope that young people concerned about our environment are inspired to follow in Emma’s footsteps.”

Emma Toft: One with Nature was a collaborative project between ETP-NEW and NEWIST/CESA 7. ETP-NEW is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit housed on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.  A preview of Emma Toft: One with Nature can be seen by visiting ETP-NEW’s YouTube page or its website.
