Music camp waives fees for Phuture Phoenix
The Middle School Band, Orchestra and Choral Camp held on campus all next week will have 20 additional student musicians performing in the beginner-level “X Band.” A portion of the revenue from a national Outreach conference, “Alternatives to Expulsion, Suspension and Dropping Out of School,” was used to offer tuition waivers for 20 Phuture Phoenix program participants from Green Bay’s Washington Middle School. These music students were recommended by UW-Green Bay alumnus and Washington Middle School band teacher Kevin Van Ess. The band camp scholarships, made available to students whose family finances might not otherwise allow them to participate, give the young musicians a full week of instruction capped by the traditional Saturday morning closing concert at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
