Double the honors for LeCalsey with second hall of fame award

Long before he was a paper industry executive and president and CEO of Tufco Technologies, or chairman of the Chancellor’s Council of Trustees at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and, now, president of the board of directors of the UW-Green Bay Foundation, Lou LeCalsey was a star athlete and standout coach.

As founding coach of UW-Green Bay soccer, he launched the program to national prominence beginning with its very first season in 1969. Those contributions, along with his ongoing history of active involvement and professional and civic achievement, earned LeCalsey induction into the Phoenix Hall of Fame in 2000.

On Friday, Sept. 23, in Lancaster, Pa., LeCalsey will receive another honor.  During Homecoming Weekend at his alma mater, Franklin & Marshall College, he will be welcomed into that school’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 1962 graduate was an all-conference goalkeeper for the Diplomats. He annually ranked among the nation’s leaders in saves per game, finishing 12^th in 1959 and seventh in 1960.  Today, fifty years since his senior season, he still owns the Franklin & Marshall school record for saves in a career, single season, and game. (He stopped 31 shots in a match vs. Swarthmore.)

In subsequent years, LeCalsey gave back to the Diplomats program by serving as a part-time goalkeeping coach for soccer, and as president of the Franklin & Marshall Varsity Club, a friend- and fund-raising organization.

LeCalsey is one of seven new inductees. F&M officials say the selection committee chose from more than 150 nominations, including a flurry of new candidates.

“We are delighted to welcome a tremendous class of superior student-athletes into the Hall of Fame,” said Director of Athletics Patricia S.W. Epps. “This may have been one of the most difficult years of voting.”
