Student initiative launched Air Force concert

The free Weidner Center show by the Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants on April 23 was a big hit, and UW-Green Bay students made the event possible.

The campus chapter of the Collegiate Music Educator’s National Conference student organization made most of the arrangements and provided funds for booking the hall. (Club officers Nick Boreen and Liz Kempf were presented with a framed photo of the band during the concert.) Additionally, CMENC’s leadership and generous sponsorship resulted in musicians from the Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants ensemble performing and offering clinics for both UW-Green Bay music students and high school musicians in the UWGB State Bound Honor Band.

Among the military parents in attendance were several with UW-Green Bay ties, who cc’d the LOG e-news with their thank-you to the students and to the Weidner Center Presents for booking the show. “We went to the concert because we appreciate good patriotic music and, of course, the military. But we got so much more!” The note praised the entertaining concert and the wide range of music — classical, gospel, show tunes, modern, marches and more.
